ExperienceI am currently a graduate student finishing my dissertation to get my PhD in Sociology. I use statistics and statistical software, such as SAS and STATA, daily in my own work. While many classes simply describe what these programs can do, I believe that learning these skills requires hands-on training. I help students understand the principles and logic of statistics and statistical programming and I help them with write programs and learn to manage data. I will help with homework and help prepare for tests and-or exams.
Prior to graduate school, I was a high school history teacher, coach, and dorm parent at a prestigious boarding school so I literally ate, slept, and worked with my students; this mcexperience not only helped me improve as a teacher but it also taught me how to find common ground with students from diverse backgrounds. An important aspect of my job was teaching students how to study and how to write effectively--i.e. how to critically read, comprehend, and analyze a variety of materials and then develop these ideas into focused, persuasive writing. I can help individuals improve their paper-writing and test-taking skills in a number of different academic areas.
I have worked with high school and college students as well as older learners looking to improve their skills and knowledge. Learning is a hands-on experience and students learn the most when they interact with the material themselves. Whether it is learning statistical programming or improving your writing, mastery comes through experience. I provide a safe and encouraging environment in which individuals can try, challenge themselves, and grow through doing.
I am new to University Tutors but I have been tutoring for almost a year and a half and I have enjoyed meeting students from a wide range of experiences and learning why they want to learn specific subjects and how I can help them on their journey
HobbiesI love to read, play sports, spend time with my friends and family, and I'm game to do anything that will make me laugh.
One of the reasons that I have really enjoyed tutoring is that I have met some really amazing people.
